PlayStation is on a roll, continuing to unveil new console versions, while Nintendo maintains their radio silence regarding their next piece of hardware. Today, Sony decided to offer a first look at the PlayStation 30th Anniversary Collection, a collection that aptly celebrates PlayStation's 30th anniversary on December 3rd.
Pre-orders for the collection will open up on September 26, with an expected release date of November 21. PlayStation hasn't announced any prices yet. That's probably to avoid major backlash again for their asking prices...this collection definitely won't be cheaper than the standard models.
Everything in the PlayStation 30th Anniversary Collection will come sporting a unique, new design that is a tribute to PlayStation's older designs. Some of the details are subtle, but some things like the color scheme are a very clear nod to the console's origins.
Some of PlayStation's 30th Anniversary Collection will be available standalone. That will include the limited edition versions of the PlayStation Portal, DualSense Wireless Controller, and DualSense Edge Wireless Controller.
The big offerings, however, are the 30th Anniversary Limited Edition bundles. There will be bundles available for both the (specifically, digital) PS5 and PS5 Pro, the latter being limited to just 12,300 units.
The PlayStation 5 Digital Edition bundle will include the limited edition versions of the console and DualSense wireless controller, as well as a Console Cover for the Disc Drive (that you need to buy separately), a vertical stand, 1-of-30 possible posters, an original PlayStation-style cable connector housing, four PlayStation Shapes cable ties, a PlayStation sticker and a paperclip. It's quite a lot.
The PlayStation 5 Pro bundle will include all the same things, but it will come with a PS5 Pro (obviously), a DualSense Edge wireless controller, and provide a DualSense Charging Station, in addition.
The 30th Anniversary Collection seems to be a nice little tribute to PlayStation's early roots. Huge fans of the console's history will definitely appreciate what the bundles have to offer. Just expect to pay some premiums for all that.
